Coffee Tamper 01

Like most people stuck at home during Covid, I hyper focused on a niche to keep myself busy and motivated. That hyper fixation was coffee. My love of coffee knows no bounds and I start every morning with a double- shot espresso. When quarantine was in place, I set out to bring the coffee shop experience to my apartment. it meant getting a fancy machine and playing around with different coffee grounds and accessories. Since it started becoming a daily routine, I wanted to see if there was a way I could bring joy to the every day routine of tamping the coffee. The idea came to me and i thought "what if the coffee had a fun or positive message?" This idea snowballed into creating a coffee tamper that has a milled word or phrase and when pressed into the coffee, it would leave an impression on the coffee grounds.
The coffee tamper would be milled from a single piece of aluminum and feature a vinyl dipped handle for both aesthetics and grip. Different colors could be used to give variety to product offering and match someone's personal style. Milling also allows for the wording to be more legible. The initial model has the word "caffè" which is an homage to the Italian word for coffee. I hope to continue to build this and design a cohesive vision with branding and packaging elements.
Personal Project: 2020

CAD underlays were used along with sketches to further explore and expand some concepts.

I was interested in finding new ways of tamping coffee. I focused more on how the user might interact with different concepts.
For the CMF of this project, I was thinking poured epoxy with a matte finish on the handle. I wanted to see what different colors would look like. The base is a milled piece of aluminum.
